Product Expertise
BIO-BASED FOAM
The technology of urethane chemistry has advanced to the level where bio-based polyols can be utilized without the loss of physical property performance. This is a critical step in the mission of providing environmentally friendly foam products at competitive prices while maintaining a superior quality product.
CHEMICAL CONTENT
Foamcraft takes seriously the health and environmental concerns today surrounding harmful chemical content in polyurethane foam. Much of the concerns result from a misinformed media and public. However, Foamcraft is proud of the fact that none of the foam products we fabricate contain:
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
- Poly-brominated diphenyl ether based flame retardant additives (PBDEs)
- Mercury, lead, or heavy metals
- Formaldehyde
- Prohibited phthalates
All of our foam suppliers offer certification to these omissions on certain products through the highly recognized industry standard
CERTIPUR - US. Additionally, by not containing lead or prohibited phthalates, Foamcraft's foam products are compliant with CPSIA 2008 sections 101 and 108 for childrens' products.
FLAMMABILITY
FURNITURE
Foamcraft offers a complete line of foam products that are compliant with the industry standard CALIFORNIA TECHNICAL BULLETIN 117 vertical burn test for components in upholstered furniture as well as the burn resistance requirements specified in FMVSS 302 for materials used in motor vehicles. In addition, Foamcraft offers a line of products that are recommended for use in applications that require more stringent flammability resistance or compliance to composite tests such as CALIFORNIA TECHNICAL BULLETIN 133, commonly referred to as the "Smolder Test."
MATTRESSES
On July 1, 2007, the CPSC made effective the FEDERAL OPEN-FLAME MATTRESS STANDARD 16 CFR PART 1633 applying to mattresses manufactured, imported, or renovated on or after that date. The standard requires composite performance to predetermined heat release limits. Manufacturers can decide how to construct their mattress to best comply to the standard, and become compliant by meeting the testing, document retention, and manufacturing requirements outlined in the standard. Foamcraft is set up to both offer compliance and recommend options for compliance for our customers, to this standard and also the 16 CFR PART 1632 CIGARETTE-IGNITION STANDARD for mattresses and mattress pads.
ANTI-MICROBIAL
Anti-Microbial, or biocide, agents ensure that over a period of time, foam products will remain resistant to fungi and bacteria that can contaminate a variety of polyurethane foam products. Foamcraft uses products with the popular "Ultra-Fresh" biocide ingredient. This additive is mixed into the chemistry of polyurethane foam in order to meet the standards AATCC TEST METHOD 147 and the AATCC Test Method 30. Foamcraft carries multiple foams of varying densities and compression ratings that contain this ingredient.
PERFORMANCE/DURABILITY
DENSITY
Density is the weight per cubic foot of a piece of foam and is the most important physical property in foam as it relates to long term performance and durability. Foamcraft has density specs for all its foam products and never compromises these specs.
IFD ASSURANCE
Foamcraft performs an extensive IFD Assurance Program to eliminate the major variation in IFD from fabricated foam products that is inherent in the process, by testing prior to final upholstery. This ensures our customers receive a consistent, quality product.
FATIGUE LOSS
Foamcraft has full fatigue testing capability to measure the amount of softening and height loss a given foam product will see over time.
COMPRESSION SET
Foamcraft has the ability to test foam products for compression set loss by exposing the foam to heat and compression for several hours to indicate how the foam will perform in the field when exposed to similar conditions.
FDA REGISTERED
Foamcraft is registered as an FDA Medical Device Manufacturer and complies with the GOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICES (GMPs) required by the registration.
