Reticulated polyurethane foam is a particularly versatile
foam type that is most often used in applications involved in sound absorption,
fluid management, and outdoor cushioning. The material features high tensile
tear and elongation properties. Reticulated polyurethanes also have a high
resistance to chemicals, making it ideal for filtration products like lawn
mowers engines or clean room wipes.
Reticulated polyurethanes are available in various levels of
porosity, which simply refers to the size of the individual pores of the foam,
expressed in ppi (pores per inch). Highly porous foams, foams with larger
pores, are used in applications like scrubber pads or furnace filters. Finely
porous foams, on the other hand, have higher ppi ratings and are used in
products like microphone windscreens and liquid filtration.
